John Papadouris, the visionary owner of Casale Panayiotis, works hard to preserve the rich culture and way of life in Kalopanayiotis. After spending decades abroad, he returned to his childhood village and took on a restoration project to preserve the mountain culture and bring the town back to life.
The Kalopanayiotis village had lost its population over the years as people left for cities and abroad, searching for work. So, in order to rejuvenate the local economy, Papadouris began by restoring Casale Panayiotis, which was once a hub of activity and a pilgrimage destination. Once completed, the project started to bring in tourists and rejuvenated the village.
Papadouris tells readers, “It was not my intention to start a business; it was to revive a village.”
Inspiring the villagers to invest in their own community, John Papadouris revitalized the mountain culture and traditional way of life in Kalopanayiotis by restoring Casale Panayiotis. The villagers responded by repairing their homes and starting small businesses, leading to a thriving village with revitalized vineyards, regenerated orchards, and restored historic buildings.
