St. George Hotel, located in Cyprus, is committed to sustainability and protecting the environment. One of the primary ways the hotel is becoming eco-friendly is by minimizing its energy consumption.
As a result of its efforts, in 2021 and 2022, the hotel was able to lower its energy usage by 1% each year. This improvement was achieved by implementing initiatives such as solar panels to heat the building’s water, staff training, LED lighting, and proper maintenance of equipment.
Assistant general manager, Marios Lontou, shares, “It is our obligation to the future generations to develop and promote responsible management for a greater and sustainable future.”
The hotel also emphasizes lowering its water consumption, which they were able to decrease by 2% in 2022. The hotel’s water initiatives include flow restrictors and an irrigation system, which provides reused and filtered water in the garden.
In addition to energy and water-saving initiatives, the hotel avoids using harmful cleaning chemicals and purchases bulk products with little to no excessive packaging. Each day the hotel is taking more steps to reduce its carbon emissions and help to create a cleaner planet for future generations.
