In Pyrgos, Cyprus, the St Raphael Hotel is committed to being an eco-friendly, sustainable resort that offers ultimate luxury whilst minimizing its carbon footprint. Taking responsibility for its actions and seeking new ways to make a difference has become the cornerstone of the hotel's philosophy.

Hotel management shares, “Our mission is to be an eco-friendly, sustainable five-star hotel proving that large resorts can still have a minimum carbon footprint while offering ultimate luxury that our customers are accustomed to.”

One of the most notable initiatives at the hotel is a photovoltaic system that helps to minimize fossil fuel consumption. The hotel has also implemented a water-saving device in the hotel showers to reduce excess water usage. 

In addition to clean energy, a number of other practices have been implemented by the hotel to achieve its sustainability goal, including reducing single-use plastics, upcycling, recycling, promoting local culture, supporting local agriculture, and providing organic food choices to guests.

To implement and monitor these sustainable practices, the hotel has formed a People-Sustainability Committee composed of members from various departments. For example, housekeeping at the hotel uses eco-friendly products and eliminates harmful chemicals. Meanwhile, the kitchen sources local products and includes plant-based options while reducing food waste. 

In order to protect the marine ecosystem, recycling bins are available throughout the resort, as well as a program to collect plastic bottles., the hotel has introduced its own glass bottled water to reduce the use of single-use plastics.
